Abstract

2-amino-6-dimethylsulphamyl-benzthiazole is prepared by treating p-dimethylsulphamylaniline with sodium thiocyanate and bromine in acetic acid; 2-amino-6-N-methyl- or -b -hydroxyethyl- or -isopropylsulphamyl-benzthiazoles are similarly prepared. Aniline-4-N-isopropylsulphonamide is prepared by reacting isopropylamine with p-acetylaminobenzene sulphonyl chloride to give acetanilide-4-N-isopropylsulphonamide which is hydrolysed. 2-amino-4-N : N-dimethylsulphamyl-benzthiazole is prepared by treating o-nitrobenzene sulphonyl chloride with dimethylamine and reducing the product to aniline-2-dimethylsulphonamide which is treated with an acetone solution of benzoylthiocyanate to give N-benzoyl - N1 - [2 - (N11:N11-dimethylsulphamyl) phenyl]thiourea. This product is hydrolysed to give N-[2-(N1:N11-dimethylsulphamyl)phenyl] thiourea which is treated with a solution of bromine in chloroform. 2-amino-4-chloro-6-(N : N-dimethylsulphamyl) benzthiazole is prepared by chlorosulphonating o-dichlorobenzene and condensing the product with dimethylamine to give 1:2-dichloro-4-dimethylsulphamyl-benzene which is heated under pressure with ammonia to give 2-chloro-4 - dimethylsulphamyl - aniline. This is then treated as above giving N-benzoyl-N1-[2-chloro-4-dimethylsulphamylphenyl]thiourea and N - (2 - chloro - 4 - dimethylsulphamylphenyl) thiourea as intermediates.
