Abstract
<FORM:0796873/IV (b)/1> <FORM:0796873/IV (b)/2> 1 - (p - Nitrophenyl) - 2 - mercapto - 4 : 4 : 6-trimethyldihydropyrimidine is prepared by refluxing 2 - methyl - 2 - thiocyano - 4 - pentanone and p-nitro-aniline in ethyl alcohol. The corresponding 1 - (2 : 4 - dinitroanilino) - and 1 - (2 : 4 : 6 - trinitro - anilino) - derivatives are prepared similarly, using 2 : 4-dinitro- or 2 : 4 : 6-trinitrophenylhydrazines. Compounds corresponding to Figs. VIII and X are prepared by heating 2 - methyl - 2 - thiocyano - 4 - pentanone with 4 : 41 - dihydrazino - 3 : 31 - dinitrodiphenyl sulphone or with 1 : 3-dinitro-4 : 6-dihydrazino-benzene respectively. 1 - (p - Nitrophenyl) - 2 - mercapto - 4 - phenyl-6 - hydroxy - dihydropyrimidine is prepared by stirring b -amino-hydrocinnamic acid dissolved in aqueous sodium hydroxide with an acetone solution of p-nitrophenyl-isothiocyanate, and cyclizing the N-(p-nitrophenyl)-N1-(a -phenyl-b - carboxy - ethyl) - thiourea formed by treatment with hydrochloric acid. The corresponding 4-methyl-dihydropyrimidine is similarly prepared by heating b -amino-butyric acid nitrile and p-nitrophenyl-isothiocyanate in benzene and treating the N-(p-nitrophenyl)-N1-(cyanoisopropyl) thiourea formed with hydrochloric acid. 4 : 41 - Dihydrazino - 3 : 31 - dinitro - diphenylsulphone is prepared by nitrating 4 : 41-difluorodiphenyl-sulphone with conc. nitric and sulphuric acids, and adding hydrazine hydrate to the 4 : 41 - difluoro - 3 : 31 - dinitro-diphenylsulphone formed. Specifications 707,704, [Group XX], and 753,434 are referred to.
