Abstract

908,261. Rotary-scythe mowers. BOWDEN, A. M. Feb. 4, 1959, No. 4003/59. Class 6(3). A rotary-scythe mower comprises a casing 1 having a series of star-shaped rotary cutters 2 mounted beneath it to co-operate with a row of fixed teeth carried by the casing above the cutters the overall height of the structure above the ground being less than five inches. The fixed teeth 10 are arranged in groups, each group being supported by a skid 12 secured to the back-wall 7 of the casing and passing under the rotary cutters. Each rotary cutter comprises a disc 4 carrying triangular teeth 3 arranged circumferentially, the disc being mounted on a stub-shaft 14, and all the stubshafts being driven by pairs of gears 17, 18 from a driven shaft 16 extending longitudinally of the casing. The casing is supported by a tractor 21 so as to extend transversely and the shaft 16 is driven, from the power take-off, through gearboxes 23, 24. The casing may contain oil.
