Abstract
676,239. Root-crop harvesters. BROOKES, A. E. No. 3, 1950 [Nov. 4,1949], No. 28238/49. Class 6(iii) Longitudinal members 60, arranged above the conveyer 47 of a root-crop harvester, divide the run into several strips only one or some of which are supplied with the roots by the conveyer 20, 21. By this means, operators on platform 63 can transfer roots or foreign matter to the unsupplied strip or strips. The machine shown has a share 18 with side plates 19 which deliver the crop and earth to the grid-like rotating drum members 21 of the conveyer 20, 21. The share and conveyer 20, 21 can rotate as a unit about the spindle of the rearmost drum 21 such rotational movements being effected either by (a) rotation of handles 34 which engage the threaded ends of rods 30 which pass through the machine frame members 33 and support the unit, or by (b) rotation of a cam 41 by lever mechanism (not shown), the cam serving to lift levers 37 associated with the nut parts 32 of handles 34. The drums 21 are driven by gearing from a shaft 56 which is connected to the power take-off shaft of a tractor, and the shaft 56 drives also the conveyer 47. Shoots 66, 68, at the top of the conveyer divert the crop into sacks and the soil back to the ground.
