Abstract

908,003. Shaft linings. GUTEHOFFNUNGSHUTTE STERKRADE A.G. Dec. 6, 1960 [Dec. 9, 1959], No. 41879/60. Class 85. A method of sealing off a lined or unlined section of a shaft at which there is a strong influx of water comprises bridging the shaft below the section with a false floor 3, allowing water 7 to accumulate above this floor, on this water constructing a caisson 8, 9 that can be subsequently floated down on to the floor 3 by draining or pumping away the water within the shaft above the floor, introducing cement 14 between the caisson and the leaking shaft section, and, when the cement is set, removing the floor and base of the caisson. Preferably the floor is only removed as far as the inner diameter of the liner now formed. The so-formed liner preferably comprises two steel casings having a concrete filling therebetween. Bores in the floor and in the base of the caisson allow of drainage of water from above the floor, and into and out of the caisson, as well as for the passage of cement grout as required.
