664,136. Shaft linings. CONIJN, N. W. and SMULDERS, H. J. A. M. Dec. 14, 1949. [Dec. 17, 1948] No. 32117/49. Class 85. A shaft lining composed of prefabricated cylindrical sections is floated into position in an already sunk shaft that is filled with liquid, the lowest section of the lining being provided with a bottom 4 and the buoyancy of the lining being regulated by pumping water into the lining. As the lining descends into the shaft, additional prefabricated sections 10 are secured to it above ground level by welding the cylindrical sheet metal edge margin 12 of the wall of the section to the corresponding sheet metal edge margin 6. of the adjacent section. Each section may comprise a sheet metal cylinder 10 on the inside wall of which is positioned angle irons 15 embedded in a concrete liner 16 or a double sheet metal wall between which the concrete is poured after the section has been positioned on the lining. Another form of construction comprises a reinforced concrete tube in the ends of which are embedded cylindrical sheet metal sleeves.
