Abstract

907,520. Saw handles. ELLIN (FOOTPRINT WORKS) Ltd., THOS. R. June 16, 1961 [June 17, 1960], No. 21292/60. Class 61. A pad or like saw handle 1 comprises a socket 4 provided with a tapered bore 5, a twopart collet 8 fitting the socket and having a corresponding external taper and means to draw the collet into the socket so that its interengagement with the tapered bore causes the two parts 9 of the collet to close into gripping engagement with the tang end of the blade 14. The two parts of the collet are held together by a circular, spring clip 19 which also serves to hold the two parts to the bolt 18. The bolt 18 passes through a hole in the inner end of the socket 4 and into an aperture 23 where a knurled operating nut 24 is accessible for rotation. One part 9 has a peg 25 projecting from its inner face and adapted to enter a corresponding hole in the tang of the blade 14, the end of the peg entering a registering hole 26 in the other part. The mouth 6 of the socket 4 is formed as a regular octagon to receive the correspondingly shaped end of the two-part collet and to thus allow the blade to be brought into any one of eight positions.
