Abstract
749,638. Hand-tool handles. MULTICRAFT, Ltd. July 1, 1954 [July 20 1953], No. 20064/53. Class 61 In a holder for interchangeable blades or tool bits comprising a handle part 10 with a screw threaded recess 11 receiving an integral screw threaded stem 15 on a slotted, resilient, partly conical clamping member 14 and a long compressing collar 18 engaging the conical part 17 of the clamping member to narrow the slot 16 or permit it to widen; the collar is of such a length as to form a sleeve by which to grasp the holder. Rotation of the handle 10 relatively to the clamping member 14 causes the collar to move up or down the conical part 17 of the member 14. Spare blades or bits are accommodated inside the long collar 18 in the slot 16 of the clamping member. A round hole 20 is provided at the centre of the slot to receive tangs of tool bits or to accommodate strengthening ribs on flat blades. Saw, chisel and gauge blades are described each having a flat shank. A double ended slotted blade which is held in the slot 16 by providing on one limb of the member 14 a small projection which extends into the slot 16 and enters the slot in the blade is also described. The Provisional Specification describes also a handle in the form of a long knob partly solid without a detachable cap.
