Abstract

A saw with a drill is proposed which can be used as a saw and as a drill. At the tip of the blade (1) of the saw, at least two drill points (4) are formed whereby drilling operation may be performed as well as sawing operations. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Combined drill and saw The present invention relates to a handsaw, and particularlyto a saw having a blade tapering towards its tip and formed with drill points at its tip.
A conventional saw is merely provided with teeth formed in the lower edge of the blade of a relatively narrow width, and its intended use is limited only to sawing operation by means oftheteeth.
There lies an inconvenience in the case of the conventional sawwhen it is desired to make a small hole in a board while doing a sawing operation, in thata drill or gimlet has to be prepared together with a saw to attend to this additional job.
An object of the present invention isto provide a saw which obviates the above said inconvenience.
In accordance with the present invention, there is provided a combined drill and saw comprising a bladeanda handle, thebladetaperingtoward itstip and being formed with teeth on one edge thereof, characterised in that the blade is formed at tip thereof with at least two drill points.
The invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying partly diagrammatic drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a side elevation of an entire saw according to the present invention; Figure2 is an enlarged fragmentary view showing the tip portion of the saw; and Figure 3 is an enlarged fragmentary view showing the tip portion ofanotherembodiment.
The saw of the present invention comprises a blade 1 and a handle 2 mounted on the blade at its rear end, the blade becoming narrower in width toward its tip and provided with teeth 3 on the lower edge. As shown in Figure 2, the blade 1 has two separated points 4 at its tip. The points each having edge faces 5,6 formed by grinding the opposite faces of the saw blade 1. In other words, the points are of a hexagonal section.
In another embodiment shown in Figure 3, the tip portion of the blade 1 includes three separate points, the central one 4' of which projects beyond the other two points 4. Furthermore, the embodiment il lustrated by Figure 3 differs from thefirst embodiment in that there are no edge faces as presented in the emb odimentof Figure 2. In this connection, the points 4,4' have a square section.
As described above, the tip portion of the saw blade may have two orthree separate cutting points.
In the latter case, the provision of the central point 4' which is longer than the other two points 4facilitates the positioning ofthe holeto bedrilled.
The combined drill and saw according to the present invention has the following effects.
When the tip of the saw blade 1 is stabbed into the surface of the object to be bored and turned with the handle, a hole is bored by means of the points. This avoids the necessity of using a separate drill or gimlet and ensures an efficient operation.
Furthermore, the points 4 and 4' can not only be used as a means for boring a hole, but also act as a marker for marking a position on a workpiece by plunging the points 4 or4' thereinto like a punch.
They can also be utilised as a mark-offpinfordraw- ing a line by use of the sharp ends ofthe points. This renders cutting operations by saw significantly efficient.
1. A combined drill and saw comprising a blade and a handle, said blade tapering toward its tip and being formed with teeth on one edge thereof, characterised in that said blade is formed at the tip thereof with at least two drill points.
2. A combined drill and saw as claimed in claim 1, wherein said blade hasthree drill points, the one at the middle of which projects beyond the other points.
3. A combined drill and saw substantially as des cribed with reference to Figures 1 and 2 or Figure 3 of the accompanying drawings.
