Classes 61 and 145 A saw blade B, for use with a saw S having a reciprocating member 10, has its free end downwardly tapered to a point 24 and the end is sharpened to provide a cutting edge 26 so that, with the saw resting on a curved rest 11, the blade can chip and saw a starting hole 29 in the workpiece W. The cutting edge 26 has. a maximum degree of sharpness at the point 24 and progressively lesser degrees of sharpness as the back edge of the blade is approached. To permit the cutting of arcs of small radius, the blade is relatively thick but relatively small in depth and is tapered towards the back edge. The blade is secured in a forked portion 10a of the member by a screw 14 and its rear end rests against a wall 10b so that the blade is tilted relative to the direction of reciprocation.
