Abstract

616,204. Diamond tools. OLIVIER, C., and KAENEL, R. VON. Aug. 29, 1946, No. 26015. Convention date, Aug. 9. [Class 124] [Also in Group XXII] In a process of turning with a diamond tool, the tool 11 has a polishing edge 12 formed by two flat intersecting surfaces 16, 17 and is set relative to the work 10 with a clearance angle 19 having a negative value of between 0 and 10 degrees so that the work rubs on the flank surface 16; the cutting angle contained between the two surfaces 16, 17 is between 90 and 100 degrees. The tool is tilted as shown in Fig. 2 so that the ends of the polishing edge 12 do not contact the work and do not leave tool marks at the end of a turning operation. The actual cutting is performed by an edge 13 arranged at an obtuse angle to the polishing edge and having positive clearance and an acute cutting angle.
