740,809. Cutting-tools and tool-holders. FIRTH-BROWN TOOLS, Ltd. Sept. 11, 1953 [June 11, 1952], No. 14717/52. Class 83 (3). A side-cutting lathe tool 20, Fig. 1, having a single cutting-edge 22, Fig. 2, presenting positive rake and clearance angles to the work, has a rubbing or bearing member 21 which, when the tool is taking a cut, bears against the side surface of the work on the line of cut ahead of the tool, so as to limit the depth of cut. The member is integral with the tool. In another embodiment, the member is part of a holder for the tool which is adjustable therein to vary the depth of cut.
