[Classes 61 (i) and 61 (ii)] [Also in Groups I and XXI] In a combination implement comprising a spade handle 1 and blade 2 with sharpened edges 3 serving as a hatchet and pointed end 4 for use as a pick, a saw 7 accommodated in the handle and a wire cutter, the latter is formed by the upper end 10 of the pivoted saw blade coacting with cutter jaws 11 on the upper end of the spade handle and there are also provided a grenade firing sleeve 16 with striker bolt 24 and pin 25 placeable on the end of the spade handle and retained thereon by a snap-head 17 mounted on the pivot 6 of the saw, together with a closure cap 29 adapted to be held on the end of the grenade firing sleeve by a snap-head 30 when not in use or on the upper end of the spade handle in place of the grenade firer, which latter and the closure cap serve as a gripping extension of the spade handle. In the construction shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 4, the saw is retained folded down into the handle or extended in line therewith by a pin controlled by a trigger 12 adapted to engage holes 15 in the saw. The grenade 19 of known kind with a firing charge is fired from the end 18 of the sleeve 16 by means of a ring 20 having a pin 21 projecting through a V-slot 22 in the sleeve 16 into an annular groove 23 in the bolt 24 carrying the striker pin 25, which bolt is projected forward by a spring 26 when ring 20 is rotated to move the pin 21 past the apex of the V-slot. In a modification shown in Fig. 10, the saw 36 which is sharpened at 37 in the manner of a bayonet is detachably pivoted to the end of the spade handle 32 by a pin 47 controlled by a trigger 46 and has a shearing nose 40 coacting with shearing jaws 49 ; the grenade firing sleeve 51 is adapted to be assembled on the end of the spade handle whilst the saw is pivoted thereto as shown in Fig. 6, by providing opposite slots 52, 53 to clear the saw blade and a shorter slot 54 to lock with the pin 47, the saw then serving as a prop to support the spade handle 32 slantingly whilst firing grenades.
