Abstract

The present invention is in the field of cutlery and its subject is a special handle structure. According to the invention a handle 2, of a knife for example, is characterised in that it has the general shape of a loop essentially formed in two parts 3 and 4 which are substantially parallel to each other and sufficiently distant from each other to allow the passage of fingers between them, the said two parts joining together at least in the part 5 of the handle next to the blade 1, and in that one of the said two parts of the handle is shaped on its outer face into a stand 6 which is sufficiently wide and flat to allow the knife to be laid on a table in its position of use. Application to knives, scissors, sharp and blunt hand tools, etc.

Description

The present invention is in the field of cutlery and it relates to a particular handle structure for cutting tools such as scissors and knives, but also all other piercing, blunt hand tools, etc.

The main object of the present invention is to provide a tool handle whose structure allows the tool to rest on a table, for example, so that it can be very easily grasped by hand to find itself in position of use; the saving of time thus achieved, which is undoubtedly minimal for a single catch of the tool, becomes significant if the tool is put down and taken up very frequently; this may be the case, for example, of butchers and pork butchers or even slaughterhouse workers this may still be the case of tailors and seamstresses.

Another object of the present invention is to take advantage of a particular handle structure to give it a safety function and / or comfort of gripping.

According to the present invention, a utensil, such as a knife or scissors, consisting of at least one blade, generally a cutting blade, and a gripping part, known as a handle, is generally characterized in that said handle has the general shape of a handle formed essentially of two parts substantially parallel to each other and sufficiently distant from each other to allow the passage of the fingers between them, said two parts coming together at least in the part of the handle adjoining the blade and in that one of said two parts of the handle is shaped on its outer face in a fairly wide and flat sole.

It follows from this arrangement that the sole, thanks to its wheelbase, constitutes a kind of foot for the utensil.

According to a secondary characteristic, the silk, or metal part of the blade extending into the handle, is contained in that of said two parts (l constitutes the handle proper, the other part, comprising the sole, having a "guard" function ". It follows from this arrangement that particularly in the case of knives, and for certain uses, for example boning of carcasses, the fingers are protected both against possible sliding in the direction of the blade and against abrasions or shocks against the material worked.

Preferably, and as is known for other cutlery articles, a median plane or of symmetry of said two parts is also the plane of the blade; the handle may have an opening between the two parts of the handle or, on the contrary, may have the shape of a closed loop on itself.

According to a preferred form of application to a knife, there is provided a prominence of the part of the handle adjoining the blade, said prominence being located on that of the parts which does not include the sole on the side opposite to the part which comprises the sole, said prominence being intended to serve as a support for the thumb; preferably, said prominence is symmetrical with respect to the plane of the blade, so that it can be used both for the thumb of the right hand and that of the left hand.

According to a preferred form of application of the invention to scissors consisting of a pair of blades articulated one on the other and provided with finger passage rings, the part of the ring of a blade comprising the sole is located opposite the other blade relative to the other part forming a handle.

The present invention will be better understood and details will be apparent from the description which will be made of particular embodiments, in relation to the figures of the single sheet appended, in which
- Fig.l illustrates from the side a knife provided with a handle according to the invention,
- fig.2 is an illustration of the same seen at the end of the back,
- Fig.3 is an illustration similar to Fig.l with a handle having a loop in closed loop, and
- Fig.4 shows in perspective a pair of sleeve scissors according to the invention.

In fig.l, in a knife consisting of a blade 1 and a handle 2, the handle has the shape of a handle consisting of two parts 3 and 4 joining in a part 5 adjoining the blade. The part 4 of the handle conforms as is clearly visible in FIG. 2 in a fairly wide and flat sole 6 on its outer or even lower face. Part 3 which has the function of a handle incorporates the tang 7 of the blade; this part 3 has the usual dimensions of the handle handles, or slightly smaller dimensions. The handle function part 3 has a protrusion 8 provided with small concavities allowing the support of the thumb; as can be seen in fig.2, this prominence is symmetrical about the plane 10 of the blade, so as to serve as well for the thumb of one or the other hand.

The handle of the knife des.fig.l and 2 is an open handle, an opening 9 separating its two parts being located on the upper side; a situation of the opening 9 can also be conceived either at the end of the handle or on the lower side.

In fig.3 the handle of a knife is similar to that of fig.1 except that the handle has the shape of a loop closed on itself and having no opening in reverse from that of the preceding figures.

I1 also has a flat sole 6 and a protrusion 8 preferably symmetrical relative to the plane of the blade.

It is easy to see that the knives shown above have the advantage, thanks to their sole, of being able to be placed in a position allowing their easy gripping, and that their handle provides a hand protection function both with regard to the sliding (guard function) only with regard to blows which the hand can give on hard or offensive surfaces.

In fig.4 a pair of scissors whose rings 12,13, constituting a manche of the blades 1,1 'respectively, are close to a known type, but different from this type on the one hand by the presence on the lower ring 12 of a wide sole 6, and on the other hand, by the conforma tion in open loop at 9 of this ring, the ring 13 belonging to the known type. Thus the characteristic of these pairs of scissors resides in that the part of the ring 12 of the blade 1, said part comprising the sole 6, is situated opposite the ring 13 of the other blade 1 'by compared to the other part 3 of the ring 12 forming a handle.

Although particular forms of application of the manchage recommended by the invention have been described and represented, it should be understood that the scope of the latter is not limited to these forms but that it extends to the manchage of all other tools which can provide the latter with the advantages of the invention.
