Abstract
907,196. Lubricators &c. CASTROL Ltd. April 10, 1961 [April 8, 1960], No. 12690/60. Class 12 (3). An automatic lubricator 11 for supplying lubricant to the head of rails on a railway track comprises a cylinder 12, containing lubricant, with base-plate 14 and detachable cover 41, which houses piston 15 and a spring 16 located between the cover and piston so as to urge the piston towards the base-plate 14. The latter has a central aperture 17 for the passage of the lubricant via conduit 19 to a discharge valve 21 on the rail. The base-plate is also provided with a further opening 28 to which is connected, via pipe 29, the socket port 31 of a bayonettype quick-release coupling, incorporating a non-return valve. When the cylinder 12 is to be replenished fresh lubricant is forced from a container 25 with hand-operated pump 24 into the lubricator 11 through the pipe 29 against the spring pressure on the piston 15. Further, to facilitate easy removal of the cover 41 of the lubricator 11 a threaded rod 55 temporarily connected to piston boss 58 is secured by nut 61 located externally on the cover, thus taking the spring pressure when the cover is released. The rod may be removed during the normal operation of the lubricator.
