Abstract

906,925. Sterilization chambers. PECHMANN, W. Jan. 7, 1960 [Jan. 20, 1959], No. 634/60. Class 81 (1). [Also in Group XIII] A machine for sterilizing bottles &c. comprises a chamber 3 surrounding a tubular passage 4 through which the bottles are conveyed on an endless belt 2, in the first portion of which passage the bottles are dried by radiant heaters (not shown) above and/or below the belt and by air from a blower 10 which is heated by passage over a heater 11 and fed by a pipe 8 to nozzles 6 into the passage. The heated air is exhausted through a centrally-disposed, discharge aperture 12 which also exhausts air for cooling the bottles which flows in countercurrent to the direction of conveyance of the bottles and which also issues from the blower 10, through a pipe 9 and nozzles 7 into the passage adjacent the discharge end of the machine. Ribs 13 are mounted on the roof of the passage to create a turbulent air flow to improve the cooling effect and similar ribs may also be mounted in the drying portion of the passage.
