906,647. Knitting-machines. HOSIERY & ALLIED TRADES RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. Sept. 15, 1960 [June 16, 1959], No. 20550/59. Class 74 (2). A counter 4 is driven from the pattern chain of a knitting-machine and is preset so that on completion of a predetermined number of courses a switch is caused to close. A feeler 7 also is provided to press against the side of the chain, and the last link determining the last course of a cycle corresponding to the same number of predetermined courses is recessed so that the feeler moves and opens a switch 6. If the chain is of the correct length corresponding to the predetermined number of courses to which the counter has been set, the one switch will be closed as the other is opened so that the circuit of a stop-motion controlling the machine is not completed and the machine can continue in operation whereby the counter is reset to open its switch and the feeler 7 closes the switch 6 as it comes in contact with the first link of the next cycle. On the other hand, if the pattern chain has been made up of an incorrect number of links, the two switches at one stage will both be closed whereby the stop motion is operated to stop the machine.
