A device for measuring the rate of yarn feed in a warp machine comprises a pulse generator driven at the yarn feed speed and actuating a counter over a predetermined number of machine cycles. Rollers 38 bearing on the warps of a warp beam 10 rotate a cam wheel 40 which actuates a switch S6. Switches S6-S8, actuated by different beams, are connected by a selector switch S5 to operate a counter 41. A projection on the hub of sprocket 18 fixed to pattern wheel shaft 14, and a movable switch-operating cam 27 on a chain driven by the sprocket are arranged to co-incide after a predetermined number of machine cycles - say half a rack and close switch S2. Initial closure of switch S2 starts a count, while closure of S1 sets up a circuit of relay R3 for its actuation when S2 is next closed. When S2 is again closed after the predetermined number of cycles, the count is terminated and relay R3 actuated to ensure that a new count cannot be undertaken even though S2 may be closed. A re-set button restores the original circuit condition and zeros the counter. A counter reading at variance with the expected value permits the beam drive 12 to be adjusted manually or automatically. Switches S6-S8 can be de-activated by a cam working on the switch spring. Several separate counters might be provided in the machine; or the counter and relays can be arranged as a portable unit to be plugged into the machine. Several different sets of chains 23 and sprockets 18 may be provided so that the count period can be varied.
