Abstract
906,080. Stuffing-box substitutes. BALZERS PATENT-UND LIZENZ-ANSTALT. July 10, 1961 [July 18, 1960], No. 24911/61. Class 122 (5). In a seal between two relatively-rotatable parts, for example a rotary shaft 5 and a wall 1, and comprising two coaxial sealing rings 10 and 11 resiliently urged into facial sealing contact with one another, the contact faces consist at least in part of a synthetic substance formed by the polymerization of halogen-containing olefines, for example polytetrafluoroethylene. The rings 10 and 11, which may be slightly conical as shown, are carried by the shaft bearing housing 2 and the shaft 5 respectively and are urged towards each other by a spring 14. The rings, or alternatively only their contacting faces, may be formed of polytetrafluoroethylene with or without such filler materials as graphite, molybdenum sulphide, boron nitride or metal powder.
