Abstract

Detergent bars consist of (a) a water soluble salt, preferably the sodium or ammonium salt, of one or more C8-20-preferably C12--C16-, alkane sulphonic acids obtained by the addition of a bisulphite to a n-1-olefin and (b) a water soluble salt, preferably the sodium salt, of one or more C10-20-fatty acids, suitably the acids derived from coconut oil or tallow, uniformly distributed throughout ingredient (a), the bars containing 5 - 20%, preferably 5 - 15%, by weight of water, the weight ratio of (a) to (b) being 1 : 9 to 9 : 1, preferably 1 : 4 to 1 : 1, and there being no disulphonates present in the composition. Alkylaryl sulphonates, alkyl sulphates, alkylphenol polyglycol ethers, acyl isothionates, fatty acid monoglyceride sulphonates, C12-16-fatty alcohols, stearic acid, mineral oil, fatty alkanolamides, polyethylene glycol monostearate, other wax-like materials, titanium dioxide, sodium carbonate, and up to 15% of salts such as sodium sulphate may also be present.
