Abstract

905,363. Shoe protectors. HANCOCK, R. V., and HANCOCK, K. C. Dec. 21, 1959 [Sept. 25, 1958], No. 30672/58. Class 17 (3). The solid shank 3 of a heel top-piece is provided with at least one flat face 5 along its length and lateral bulges 6 forming an enlargement of the shank to grip the walls of a bore in a heel in which the shank is engaged. Preferably two flat faces are formed by means of pressing jaws. The shank may be integral with the tread 8, or may be formed with a frusto-conical enlargement 7 which grips a separate tread portion, e.g. of leather. In the construction shown in Fig. 3 a plastic heel 10 is reinforced by sleeve 11 secured by flats 12 and/or a serrated portion 13, or by a bifurcated end portion. The disc-like gripping element 9 of the shank engages in a recess in the tread 8.
