Abstract

A modification of the process claimed in claim 8 of the parent Specification comprises treating the textile surfaces with a bath of an aqueous acid solution of the product made by the process as claimed in any of claims 1 to 7 of said Specification, adding a basic substance to the bath until the bath has a pH in the range 8 to 11, treating the textile surface with the bath at a temperature of 50 DEG C. to 100 DEG C., to fix said product on the surface and drying the treated surface. Specified acids are sulphuric, phosphoric, formic, acetic, oxalic, citric, succinic and lactic acid. Specified basic substances are caustic soda, caustic potash, sodium carbonate, potassium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate and triethanolamine. In the Examples:-(1) highly padded polyacrylonitrile yarn is treated with an aqueous solution containing a partially sulphonated higher molecular weight fatty alcohol mixture, acetic acid of a polyglycol, epichlorohydrin and dipropylene triamine reaction product, the base added being calcined soda; (2) polyacrylonitrile pullovers are dyed with an aqueous solution containing dispersion dyestuffs, acetic acid and an anionic finishing agent and a reaction product of a polyglycol, epichlorohydrin and dipropylene triamine added, the base added being calcined soda; (3) polyester curtain fabric is treated as in Example (2); (4) a mixed yarn of viscose rayon and a polyester is treated with an aqueous solution of a polyglycol-epichlorohydrin-triethylene tetramine reaction product, containing tetrapropylene benzene sulphonate and acetic acid, calcined soda then being added; (5) a polyamide-polyester stockinette is treated with an aqueous solution containing a reaction product as in Example (1), a higher molecular weight fatty alcohol-sodium sulphate and acetic acid, the basic substance added being caustic soda; (6) mixed woolpolyacrylonitrile material is treated with an aqueous solution of an ethoxylated ethylene chlorohydrin : diethylene triamine and epichlorohydrin reaction product containing acetic acid, the basic substance added being sodium bicarbonate; and (7) and (8) polyacrylonitrile yarn is treated with an aqueous solution of a polyglycol : epichlorohydrin : dipropylene triamine reaction product containing a higher molecular weight fatty alcohol sodium sulphate reaction product and acetic acid, the base added being calcined soda, the treated yarns then being dyed.
