Abstract

904,381. Ships' derricks. WARTSILAYHTYMA OY - WARTSILA - KONCERNEN A.B. Oct. 27,1960 [Oct. 27,1959], No. 36929/60. Class 78 (4). A device 12 is prevented from slewing by a guy 5, extending between the derrick tip and a point on the perpendicular to the plane in which the device luffs through the pivot 14 of the derrick, and a second guy 6, 7 extending from the top of the derrick to points A, B which are such that the derrick can be luffed without disconnecting or adjusting either guy. As described, the guy 6, 7 passes through a block 25 attached to the derrick. Alternatively the two ends of the guy may be secured to the derrick tip whilst the guy passes in a loop through blocks at A and B. As a modification of the latter embodiment the guy may pass round a winch between the two blocks so that one part of the guy is wound in as the other part is unwound. In this embodiment a separate luffing winch is unnecessary. A formula is given for calculating the position of the points A and B.
