Abstract

904,080. Coating webs. KODAK Ltd. Nov. 24, 1960 [Nov. 27, 1959], No. 40395/60. Class 140. [Also in Group XX] The amount of liquid carried by a moving surface 37, e.g. the periphery of a disc 27, between a point of liquid supply and a point at which the liquid is delivered to a moving web F, is controlled by establishing a plurality of stationary liquid beads between the surface 37 and a complementary surface 53. The surface 53 is defined by the ends of projections 51, is concentric with the peripheral surface 37, and has a plurality of centrally-disposed lands 57 between which and the surface 37 the beads are formed. The beads ensure a uniform rate of liquid delivery by the disc 27 in the event of uneven rotation of the disc. The surface 53 is formed on an adjustable shoe 39, and the distance between the disc 27 and a back-up roller 17 is adjustable by means of adjustable levers 21, 23 which carry the shaft 19 of the roller 17. A bead of liquid is also formed between the disc 27 and the web F.
