Improvements introduced into an apparatus for applying a liquid film to a moving sheet, the apparatus comprising a roller train, of at least two rollers, comprising a liquid transfer roller and a liquid applicator roller, means for rotating said rollers, liquid feeding means for applying a liquid film to said liquid transfer roller, and sheet supporting means for supporting a sheet against the surface of said liquid applying roller, whereby the rotation of said train of rollers allows the sheet to move beyond said applicator roller, characterized in that the surface of said liquid transfer roller is contoured so that said surface of the same has a liquid retention capacity, during rotation, superior to that required for application to the sheet, and the surface of said applicator roller of liquid is contoured so that said surface thereof has a liquid retention capacity during rotation, less than that of said transfer roller.
