Abstract

1,273,377. Coating apparatus. JOHNSMANVILLE CORP. 26 Aug., 1969 [3 Sept., 1968], No. 42428/69. Heading B2L. [Also in Division D1] Coating apparatus comprises a rotating applicator roll 17, a container 10 of liquid coating material 11, and an endless travelling belt 14 which is partially immersed in the liquid 11 and which contacts the applicator roll 17 such that the portions of the surfaces of the belt 14 and roll 17 in the area of contact are moving in opposite directions, whereby the coating liquid picked up by the belt is transferred to form a uniform and continuous layer on the applicator roll. The roll 17 and beltdriving roll 15 may have a common drive of adjustable speed (Fig. 1, not shown), and the belt-supporting shaft 16 is adjustable to vary the contact area a-b, whereby the rate of transfer of coating liquid to the applicator roll may be adjusted. A heater may be provided in the container 10.
