Abstract

1339916 Coating apparatus E KUSTERS 8 Jan 1971 960/71 Heading D1L [Also in Division B2] Apparatus for coating a web 9' comprises a roller 2' rotatable in a trough 1' of coating medium and a brush 5' rotated at a higher peripheral speed so that a spray emanates from the point of contact of the roller and brush. The spray is passed through a masking aperture in the shield 11. The axis of the roller brush 5' can be moved about the axis of the roller 2' so that the point of contact is moved around the periphery of the roller 2'. The angle of the web relative to the line of contact can be moved so that a given spray pattern covers a different area of the web. To coat both sides of a web it can have a similar apparatus located on each side thereof to operate simultaneously. In a modification two rollers may be interposed between the brush 5' and the roller 2' so that they transfer coating medium from the roller 2' to the brush 5'.
