Abstract

1388528 Liquid application device RICOH K K 12 July 1973 [15 July 1972] 33202/73 Heading G2X A device for applying liquid to a sheet (e.g. in a diazotype photo-copying machine) comprises a first roller 1, means for applying liquid to the first roller, a second roller 4 arranged to receive liquid from the first roller, a control member for controlling the quantity of liquid transferred from the first roller to the second roller as the rollers rotate, pressure means for urging a sheet against the second roller to progressively cover the sheet with a substantially uniform layer of the liquid, and a removal member for removing any excess liquid from the second roller after the surface of the second roller passes the pressure means but before it receives fresh liquid from the first roller. The control member and the removal member may each be doctor blades or rollers. The liquid may be applied to roller 1 from a bath or by a spray. The pressure means may comprise a roller 6 to which pressure is releasably applied by another roller (20) on a solenoid-operated shaft (15).
