An insulation and roofing material comprises a sheet having on one surface thereof a coating of asphalt or other bitumen in which are retained substantially spherical grains of expanded burnt clay of a substantially uniform size in the range of 3 to 10 mm. and having a blistery structure which form a single layer projecting from the bitumen coating and leave the coating exposed between them. The sheet may be composed of glass fleece, plastic foil, metal foil, or a roofing felt or woven fabric impregnated with asphalt or other bitumen. The sheet may be coated on both sides with bitumen. The material may be in the form of a roll or shingles. Specification 695,838 is referred to.
