In a method of for ming a joint in a pipe T of thermoplastic material and having an elastic memory one end of the pipe is radially expanded and disposed over a fitting R, having grooves or saw teeth S, the expanded end of the pipe then being heated so as to form locking collars with the grooves by tending to resume the initial shape thereof.
