Abstract

825,112. Pipe couplings. MONSANTO CHEMICALS Ltd. May 27, 1958 [July 8, 1957], No. 21495/57. Class 99(1). In joining a length of pipe 1 made from a thermoplastic resin to a compression coupling of brass or a synthetic plastic and comprising a shouldered nut 2 carried on a coupling body 3 provided with a circumferential cavity for reception of a sealing ring 5, the end of the pipe is softened and the ring is moulded integrally with the pipe, the nut being used to pull the ring into the cavity. As shown, the body 3 of the coupling has an internal shoulder 4 against which the softened end of the pipe 1 is pressed to form the sealing ring 5. After the pipe has cooled in situ the nut 2 is tightened. The pipe is made from cellulose acetate, polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene or polystyrene.
