903,419. Hand-propelled vehicle brakes. LINES BROS Ltd. (Lines Bros. (Canada) Ltd.). Feb. 21, 1961 [Feb. 24, 1960], No. 6505/60. Class 103 (1). [Also in Group XXXII] A tyre brake and ground-engaging steadying device for a perambulator or like vehicle consists of a single transverse bar, at the handle end of the vehicle, connected to linkage including an operating lever extending rearwardly from the handle-end axle. The combined brake and steady consists of a rod 6 bent to form a tyre engaging brake 7 at each end and carried in plates 8 fixed to the frame 1. Between the plates 8 the rod 6 is bent to U-shape to form the ground-engaging member. An operating lever 9 is pivoted on a plate 10, rigid with the rear axle, and is connected to the member 6 by a link 12, the lever 9 and link 12 being formed with flanges 11, 15 respectively which serve as pedals. An overcentre spring 20 is connected between the member 6 and an arm 18 fixed to one plate 8. When the pedal 11 is depressed the link 12 pivots the member 6 in the plates 8 to engage the ground and the tyres, a stop 21 preventing excess movement due to the spring which is under tension to keep the brake engaged. Pressure on the pedal 15 releases the brake and the steady, the spring going over-centre and being slightly bent by a lug 19 on lever 9 to hold the assembly from rattling.
