Abstract

903,214. Suspension filing cabinets. WATT, G. (Barker (Proprietary) Ltd., William). Sept. 30, 1960, No. 33700/60. Class 146 (1). A filing cabinet 1 for drawings, plans and the like provided with laths 2 mounted transversely across the cabinet and having oppositely disposed filing posts 3, 4 projecting therefrom in staggered relation to each other, is characterized in that sprocket wheels 5, mounted on the ends of shafts 6 rotatably accommodated within the laths 2, engage chain tracks 7 at each side of the cabinet to ensure that the ends of each lath move in unison when the laths are separated to remove or insert a drawing. Alternatively, a rack-andpinion movement or pulleys engaging lengths of belting replace the sprocket wheel and chain movement. The laths are supported by members 8 carrying rollers 10 engaged in channels 9 at each side of the cabinet. In addition, the members 8 may carry central rollers rotatable about vertical axes and bearing against the vertical inner faces of the channels 9, to prevent transverse movement of the laths. Covers 11 are hinged to the tops of the laths, their flanged ends 12 being slotted to receive the filing posts 3, 4. A pivoted stop 15 limits the movement of the laths and the front face 16 of the cabinet is hinged to swing downwards. The laths are normally locked together by spring-loaded catches and may be supported by rollers on the ends of the shaft 6.
