Abstract

934,891. Storage systems. H. A. KULTNER. March 1, 1961 [March 7, 1960], No. 7447/61. Class 78 (4). In a storage system of the type in which cabinets 1 (Fig. 4) are shifted endwise to provide access gangways, each cabinet is fitted with a hand wheel 7, or with a lever, connected through a transmission to a driving wheel running along a track on or near the floor : the driving wheel is resiliently biased into engagement with the track so that its co-operation with the track is broken if the compartment encounters an obstruction. In the form illustrated the driving wheel consists of a pinion 11 (Fig. 6) carried by a shaft 10 mounted on resilient brackets 24 and biased by springs 26 into engagement with a chain 12 secured in a channel in the floor. The cabinets are mounted on wheels 28 running on tracks 23 and are guided by rollers 29 engaging in channels in the tracks 23. The hand wheel may be connected to the shaft 10 through a chain 8 (Fig. 1) or through a V-belt, or by bevel gearing and a vertical shaft. The drawers may be taken to the supporting rollers 3. The transmission may be enclosed by a cage 22 (Fig. 4). The shaft 10 is preferably supported by a central roller 14 (Fig. 1) engaging track 15 between the tracks 4, 4<SP>1</SP> for the rollers supporting the outer edges of the cabinet.
