Abstract

903,098. Transformers. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORPORATION. Oct. 11, 1960 [Nov. 18, 1959], No. 34845/60. Class 38 (2). In a transformer having its windings 20, 30 (Fig. 2) of sheet material partly interwound and connected so that the interwinding capacitance 72 is effectively in series in the circuit of one winding 20 as described in Specification 885,598, means, responsive to voltage surges (such as back-to-back Zener diodes 82, 84) or excessive current (such as the current type relay arrangement 90, 92, 94, 96 shown in Fig. 3) are provided to connect the interwinding capacitance effectively in parallel with the winding 20 on the occurrence of abnormal conditions. Instead of the current transformer 92, magnetic or semi-conductor devices may be used. The windings may be arranged to provide a high leakage reactance. Specifications 872,073 also is referred to.
