Abstract

1,031,932. Protective arrangements. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. April 4, 1963 [April 9, 1962], No. 13332/63. Heading H2K. In an arrangement for protecting a superconducting magnet coil 1, a non-super-conductor 2 is electrically connected to one end of the super-conductor and thereafter closely follows the super-conductor but is electrically insulated therefrom. A voltage sensitive device is connected between the ends 5 and 6 of the conductors. Under normal conditions no potential difference exists between the ends 5, 6, but in the event of a fault on the super-conductor 1, the potential difference between the ends 5, 6 is sufficient to energize a relay 10 with a slight time delay provided by a resistor 15 and a capacitor 14. The relay 10 closes its contacts 13 to energize the coil 16 of a contactor 11 which closes contacts 18 to connect a resistor 19 across the non-super-conductor 2 and then opens contacts 17 to disconnect the super-conducting coil 1.
