Abstract

1391636 Testing circuit isolation LICENTIA PATENT-VERWALTUNGS-GmbH 19 Oct 1972 [19 Oct 1971] 48230/72 Heading G1U The prior art arrangement, Fig. 1, for testing a circuit isolating switch P (i.e. a switch designed merely to break the full load, and not the shortcircuit, current) in such a way as to simulate the conditions the switch would experience in use, requires the use of a generator, shown as an ideal A.C. source G and an inductance Z, whose inductance is of the order of 10 to 20% of the load inductance ZL necessary to provide a lagging power factor of about 50 degrees, is modified as shown in Fig. 3 with the result that the generator impedance Z' can now be 5 to 10 times as large as the load impedance Z L, without reducing the recovery voltage. The alternate generator G has to provide a slightly higher voltage than the original in order to offset the voltage dropped across the resistor R. Thus, with the testing arrangement of Fig. 3, as compared with that of Fig. 1, a given switch can be tested using a generator having a smaller short-circuit capacity.
