Abstract

1,221,291. Testing circuit breakers. A. REYROLLE & CO. Ltd. Feb.7, 1968 [Nov.25, 1966], No.52817/66. Heading G1U. A circuit for testing the capacitor switching performance of a circuit breaker T comprises an A.C. power source S, an inductance L and an auxiliary circuit breaker A connected in series across the circuit breaker under test, and a capacitor C and resistor R connected in series across either the auxiliary circuit breaker, as shown, or the test circuit breaker, the arrangement being such that the circuit breakers are opened just before a natural current mva and the capacitor is caused to supply a D.C. current to the circuit breaker to which it is connected after opening of the circuit breakers but before current interruption. When the capacitor C is connected across the test circuit breaker a resistance Rg, Fig.4 (not shown) is connected across the auxiliary circuit breaker so as to provide afraction of the A.C. source voltage at the terminals of the test circuit breaker after current interruption. The capacitor C is initially charged to a voltage higher than the peak voltage of the A.C. power source.
