Abstract

In a synthetic test circuit for testing a circuit breaker 5 of the type having a parallel switching resistor 18 of low value in which the outputs of a high current source 1 and a high voltage source 9 are applied in succession to the breaker, the resistor 18 is shifted to a position 18<SP>1</SP> in which it ceases to shunt the output from the high voltage source. When current from the supply source 1 drops to zero after opening auxiliary switch 4 and the circuit breaker 5, a restriking voltage is applied from the current supply source 1 via capacitor 15 to the breaker. In addition, at this time, spark gap 11 is fired so that a high voltage stored in capacitor 10 is applied to the breaker to increase the restriking voltage. In its position 18<SP>1</SP> the resistor is in shunt only with the supply from the current source. Capacitor 6 ensures that the restriking voltage rises at a suitable rate.
