Abstract

902,849. Clocks. SMITH & SONS (ENGLAND) Ltd., S., and BRACKENSEY, A. H. Dec. 23, 1959 [Dec. 31, 1958; July 10, 1959], Nos. 42226/58 and 42226/58. Class 139. In a clock having a mainspring which is repeatedly rewound by an electromagnet, the switch contacts of the electromagnet circuit are located in a hermetically sealed container and are actuated magnetically. The mainspring 65 is attached to the armature 59 pivotably located between the poles 45, 46 of the electromagnet 42, 43, 44. The switch of the electromagnet circuit is located within a hermetically-sealed container 51 and comprises a stationary contact 48 and a contact 49 on a pivoted bar magnet 53 urged clockwise by a spring 73. A permanent magnet 57 outside the container 51 urges the bar magnet 53 in the direction to open the switch 48, 49. As the mainspring 65 unwinds to drive the going train, the armature 59 is rocked counterclockwise and a permanent magnet 64 approaches the magnet 53 which is suddenly moved to close the switch 48, 49, whereupon the electromagnet 42, 43, 44 is energized to rock the armature 59 clockwise and restress the mainspring 65. The invention may be applied to the clock described in Specification 550,982.
