Abstract

901,760. Dispensing liquids by gaseous pressure. GASKELL & CHAMBERS Ltd. Oct. 25, 1960 [Nov. 26, 1959], No. 40160/59. Class 102(2). [Also in Group XXIX] A valve means for controlling two different fluids, such as beer and carbon dioxide, comprises a discharge valve 15 adapted to be connected to a container from which one fluid is to be dispensed, together with a control valve having a spring-loaded closure member 19 which is connected to the operating member 17 of the control valve, the control valve being adapted to connect a supply of the other fluid to the container, the arrangement be such that each valve can be operated independently of the other valve, the operating member 16 of the discharge valve, or a part 25 secured thereto, being engageable with the operating member 17 or a part 24 secured thereto during part of the range of movement of the operating member 16 whereby both valves 15, 19 can be opened at the same time if desired. As applied to dispensing beer under gas pressure, the valve 15 is connected to the beer barrel and the valve 19 connected via passages 20, 21 and pipes 22, 23 to the barrel and a source of pressurised gas. By pulling the operating member 17 the valve 19 opens against spring pressure independently of the valve 15 and allows gas to enter the barrel. Similarly by operating the member 16 a certain distance, the valve 15 may be opened independently of the valve 19. When it is desired to open both valves, the member 16 is moved until a slotted plate 25 abuts an adjustable collar 24 on the member 17 and thereby opens the valve 19. The bore in the valve 15 and a portion 26 of the discharge pipe 12 are tapered in order to reduce frothing of the beer.
