Abstract

901,240. Reactor pressure vessels. A.E.I.-J. THOMPSON NUCLEAR ENERGY CO. Ltd. Sept. 29, 1960 [Sept. 29, 1959], No. 33053/59. Class 39 (4). A nuclear reactor pressure vessel stand-pipe is provided with a duct through the thermal shield from which it is spaced to permit thermal dimension charges. A radiation absorbent muff surrounds the pipe inside the duct to prevent the escape of radiation through the duct. As shown, the duct 2 in the shield 1 is spaced from the stand-pipe 3 which carries the helical muff 11. The latter is accommodated in and spaced from a helical recess in the wall of duct 2 formed of metal sheets 21, 22, 23. The muff is formed of metal sheets 12, 13, 14 and the space between 12 and 3 is filled with concrete.
