Abstract
1,054,219. Reactor shields. NUCLEAR POWER PLANT CO. Ltd., and A.E.I.-JOHN THOMPSON NUCLEAR ENERGY CO. Ltd. Feb. 26, 1965 [April 24, 1964], No. 17197/64. Heading G6C. In a nuclear reactor concrete pressure vessel, which contains both a reactor core and heat exchangers, a radiation shield is interposed between the core and exchangers. The shield is formed of steel tubes filled with a neutron moderator. The tubes may be laid axially along the core or may be bent and arranged circumferentially. Solid metal or plates may be interspersed between the tubes. The tube filling may be carbon, calcium, barium and ferric hydroxide or zirconium hydride.
