Abstract
900,865. Scrap consolidating; shearing. LINDEMANN, W. July 7, 1960 [Dec. 31, 1959], No. 23800/60. Class 83 (4). A machine for consolidating and cutting-up scrap B comprises a trough 32 containing a ram 31 for pushing the scrap B towards cutters 23, 25, and a jaw 42 pivoted on a longitudinal edge of the trough and supporting large pieces of scrap which it consolidates by movement towards an opposed surface. This surface may consist of an extension of the trough (Fig. 14, not shown), or another jaw 42, which may be in the form of an extra trough (Fig. 15, not shown) for the scrap. The jaws have teeth or hooks 51, 53 and are operated independently by hydraulic cylinders 47 to crush the scrap in stages until it falls into the trough. It is then advanced by the hydraulic ram 31 to one or more vertical rams 29 driven hydraulically independently of each other so as to further consolidate the scrap. After the rams 29 have been raised, the ram 31 advances the scrap to the cutter 25 which is lowered by a cylinder 26 and raised by cylinders 28. A bar 54 strips scrap from a rearward extension plate 38 on the ram 31 on return movements of the ram.
