Abstract

1,260,855. Working stone. RAMAGLIONI & SON. 17 June, 1969 [22 June, 1968], No. 29898/68. Heading B5E. A machine for cutting blocks of stone, concrete or the like, comprises upper and lower spaced movable knives and two transversely spaced movable knives 15, the cutting edges of the knives being in the same plane and defining a rectangular opening 12 for reception of a block to be cut, and means for operating the knives to press on the block simultaneously. The block is fed to the cutting plane by a chain conveyer operated by a lever through a ratchet mechanism. The knives 15 are carried by holders 14 which are slidable in slots 13 in a frame consisting of a pair of plates 3a held spaced apart by L-shaped brackets to form the slots 13. The upper and lower knife holders have recesses 18 respectively engaged by arms 21 of threearmed levers 20 mounted on pivots 19 on the plates. The arms 22 of vertically aligned levers 20 are connected to hydraulic rams 24 and the arms 23 are connected by links 30 to the transverse knife holders 14 whereby, upon operation of the rams, the knives are moved simultaneously to engage the block to be cut and simultaneously withdrawn. In another embodiment, the knife holders are moved by a rope which engages pulleys on the water ends of the knife holders and has each of its ends wrapped in the same direction around and connected to a drum, the drum being rotatable to cause the knives to engage the block by a lever connected to an hydraulic ram.
