Abstract

900,141. Space-charge-wave tubes. HUGHES AIRCRAFT CO. Nov. 17, 1960 [Dec. 1, 1959], No. 39589/60. Class 39 (1). A parametric amplifier of Adler-type with longitudinal magnetic field has the input coupler in the form of a cavity resonator. This may be a rectangular waveguide section 80, Fig. 4, with a rectangular or trapezoidal ridge 82, which may be stopped at 84, and is cut short at the ends by an orthogonal or sloping face. In another form, a length of coaxial line 58, Fig. 3, communicates with a larger cylinder 68 containing strip member 76 supported by the inner line conductor 64, the beam being 78. A cylindrical waveguide 102, Fig. 6, may carry two ridges 100 which may be sectorial, or as shown shaped to follow the field lines of the TE 11 mode. A rectangular guide 114, Fig. 7, may be similarly shaped to follow the TE 10 field lines. Alternatively, a cavity of generally dumb-bell shaped section similar to the rhumbatron may be used. The output coupler may be similar to the input coupler. The pump unit may also be a cavity giving a quadrupole field.
