Abstract
1440549 Waveguide couplers for circularelectric mode COMPAGNIE INDUSTRIELLE DES TELECOMMUNICATIONS CIT-ALCATEL 27 Nov 1974 [28 Nov 1973] 51432/74 Heading H1W A rectangular to circular waveguide coupler includes, in the circular waveguide, an elongated sector-shaped insert effective to suppress modes other than the TE 01 and TE 02 circular-electric modes. Fig. 2 shows the left-hand half of a symmetrical bisection of the coupler in which the narrow wall of a rectangular waveguide 1 (shown displaced) is coupled to a circular waveguide 2 by means of a row of apertures 16 whereby the circular-electric TE 01 or TE 02 mode (depending upon the dimensions of the waveguide) is excited in the circular guide. All other modes are suppressed by a conductive insert 15 which has a sector-shaped section throughout the coupling interval and tapers, at either extremity, to a radial septum. For TE 01 mode propagation the angle of the sector is 60 degrees and for TE 02 mode propagation, it is 90 degrees.
