898,982. Forming fibre laps. WHITIN MACHINE WORKS. April 23, 1959 [March 2, 1959], No. 13841/59. Drawings to Specification. Classes 120(1) and 120(3) With the object of permitting heavier laps to be processed on conventional combing machines, laps are prepared from a plurality of card slivers by first drawing them with a draft of not less than 6, then drawing a plurality of the drafted slivers with a draft of not less than 3 and forming them into a ribbon, followed by superposing a plurality of ribbons to form a lap for a combing machine. As described, 8 to 12, preferably 10, card slivers are drafted together at a draw box with a draft of 7À7. Then 10 to 20, preferably 10, drafted slivers are supplied to each of six drawing heads of a ribbon lapper set to give drafts of 4À2 and which combines the drafted ribbons.
