Abstract

898,391. Regulating; starting fuel-injection engines. C.A.V. Ltd. May 30, 1960 [June 11, 1959], No. 20000/59. Classes 7(3) and 7(6). The maximum delivery stop d<SP>1</SP> of a fuel injection pump is adjusted according to the density of the fuel and is automatically set to an excess delivery position for starting when the engine is at rest. In Fig. 1 the stop d<SP>1</SP> is carried by a rod g<SP>1</SP> attached to a spring-loaded cup b<SP>1</SP> into which the fuel is delivered by a pipe h<SP>1</SP>, the cup positioning the wedge-shaped stop d<SP>1</SP> in accordance with fuel density to limit the control rod f<SP>1</SP> to a lower or higher maximum. When the engine stops, the fuel drains from the cup through a hole i<SP>1</SP> whereby the stop d<SP>1</SP> is lifted to a starting position in which the rod f<SP>1</SP> can move to an excess supply position defined by a shoulder at the bottom of the member d<SP>1</SP>. In a modification the member d<SP>1</SP> is provided with a stepped surface instead of a wedge and a dashpot is attached to the cup b<SP>1</SP>. In Fig. 3 the cup is replaced by a float o<SP>3</SP> situated in a fuel chamber having an overflow j<SP>3</SP> with a small restriction r<SP>3</SP> which allows the chamber to empty when the engine stops. A dashpot m<SP>3</SP> is attached to the lower end of the stop d<SP>3</SP>.
