Abstract
576,676. Starting; auxiliary charges. PIERCE, C. B. March 17, 1944, No. 5031. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (v)] [Also in Group XXXIV] Liquid such as fuel or lubricating oil is delivered to the induction pipe initially in a predetermined quantity and thereafter in intermittent doses. A closed chamber 4 disposed near the bottom of a fuel or oil container 3 communicates therewith through a small aperture 6 and is connected by a tube 10 with the induction pipe. The tube 10 dips into a well 5 in the chamber the upper part of which is vented through a pipe 8. Initially, engine suction empties the chamber until the liquid level falls below the end of the pipe 10 to a point where capillarity cannot maintain connection between the liquid and the tube whereupon withdrawal of the liquid ceases until the level has been raised to the end of the tube by liquid flowing through the orifice 6. A valve device 11 may be inserted in the tube 10 to cut off the supply when a thermo-sensitive element 14 closes a needle valve 13.
